Parents Code of Conduct

Your participation in Football or Netball competitions and activities organised by the Modewarre Football & Netball Club should be enjoyable for you, your team mates and for the other people who make the competition possible eg coaches, umpires, scorers, timekeepers and Parents.

As a player you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any event organised by the club.

  • Participate because you enjoy it, not just to please your parents and coaches
  • Play by the rules, know the rules
  • Participate fairly and safely
  • Abide by decisions, without argument, bad temper or bad language
  • Cooperate with your coach and other players
  • Verbal abuse of officials or other players, deliberately fouling or provoking an opponent and throwing or damaging equipment is not acceptable or permitted
  • Treat all players as you would like to be treated yourself
  • Ensure that at all times your behaviour is fair
  • Be a patient and enthusiastic supporter of fellow players
  • Applaud all good play by your own team and by your opponents
  • Be a responsible team member
  • Always be on time
  • Encourage and assist all players
  • Attend all training sessions ˇV please advise your coach in advance if you are unable to attend a training sessions
  • Ensure you always bring the appropriate uniform and equipment to training and matches

Respect and acknowledge the contribution of those who create the opportunity for you to play for example, scorers, coaches, timekeepers, administrators and umpires

A failure to comply with the Clubs Code of Conduct will result in appropriate action being taken including possible barring of game play and dismissal from the club

Your participation in Football and or Netball competitions and activities organised by the Modewarre Football & Netball Club should be enjoyable for you, your child or their team mates and for the other people who make the competition possible eg coaches, umpires, scorers, timekeepers and Parents, most of whom give their time free of charge.

As a parent you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during an event organised by the club.

  • If your child is interested, encourage them to participate in the appropriate football or netball activity. However, if your child is not willing to participate, do not force her or him. Remember, children are involved in organised activity for their enjoyment, not yours.
  • Focus on your child’s efforts and performance rather than the overall outcome of the event. This approach assists your child in setting realistic goals related to his ability by reducing the emphasis on winning
  • Teach your child that an honest effort is as important as victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment
  • Encourage your child to always play according to the rules
  • Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a game
  • Remember that children learn best from example. Applaud good play by all players even the opposition team
  • If you disagree with an umpire or coach, raise the issue through the appropriate channels rather than question their judgement and honesty in public.
  • Seek out the team manager, coach or the junior coordinator to raise your concerns
  • Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse
  • Encourage your child by praising then when they do something well – try to avoid singling out negative issues or performance if possible
  • Recognise and respect the value and importance of volunteer administrators, coaches and umpires. They give their time and resources to provide recreational activities for players and deserve your support
  • Be a model of good sports behaviour for children to copy
  • Support the use of age appropriate development activities and modified rules

A failure to comply with the Club’s Code of Conduct will result in appropriate action being taken including being barred from attending games and possible dismissal from the club.
